To implement the
sports movement, local authorities mobilised funding to construct facilities
while establishing sports clubs. As a result, the movement was enthusiastically
supported by locals. Some 3,000 working days were contributed while

The land
donation for sports facilities construction was well supported by people in
Hieng hamlet as they wanted to play football, volleyball and badminton, said
Ngan Van Hien, a resident in Hieng hamlet.

The efforts have
improved public awareness of the benefits of doing exercise. Now, 30 percent of
the local population are frequent exercisers. The commune has 15 men’s and
women’s football teams, while each hamlet has one men’s and one women’s
volleyball team. Sports facilities are full of people exercising in the
afternoon. Traditional sports such as crossbow shooting (bắn nỏ), spinning top (đánh
cù), stick pushing (đẩy
gậy) are held in early spring. The commune holds a sports festival every three
years, while competitions are usually organized on the occasions of national holidays.
Amateur athletes of Noong Luong commune join in every competition held by Mai
Chau district and have won top prizes, including third prize in the male
category in a badminton competition in 2016 and second prize in a female
category in the 2017 competition.
To promote the
"The whole population take exercise following model of President Ho Chi Minh”
campaign, the locality will enhance the quality of sports activities in
hamlets, said Lo Van Luan, a culture official of Noong Luong commune.
More resources
will be mobilised to help locals engage in physical training thus improving
community health while ensuring social security and eliminating social evils.
