Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Ninh province co-organised the "Ve mien Quan Ho” (Coming to the Quan ho region) programme to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Quan ho (love duet) singing being recognised as an UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of humanity, in Bac Ninh city, on February 23.

The event was attended by Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Secretariat; General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security; General Pham Van Tra, former Politburo member, former Minister of Defence; and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; representatives and leaders of departments, ministries, branches and embassies of 34 countries and territories, along with a number of international organisations in Vietnam; the leaders of Bac Ninh province and numerous local people and tourists.

According to Chairman of Bac Ninh provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tu Quynh, after 10 years since Quan Ho singing was honoured by UNESCO (2009-2019), with the efforts of the political system and the cooperation of the people, Bac Ninh province has seriously implemented its commitments with UNESCO on preserving and fostering heritage values and spreading Quan Ho singing.

Accordingly, from only 49 original Quan Ho villages and 34 clubs, up to now, there are 369 Quan Ho villages, 381 clubs with over 10,000 members. Especially, there are more than 140 clubs in provinces and overseas Vietnamese communities.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam praised the achievements of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, authorities and people over the past few years. The conservation and promotion of Quan Ho singing of province in Bac Ninh province is a unique and effective model, which needs to be replicated in the preservation of intangible cultural heritage throughout the country, he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that, in order for Quan to be preserved and spread, the role of the people is central. The responsibility to preserve and promote the Quan ho folk song heritage values does not only stop within Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces but also in the whole country, with all Vietnamese in the country and abroad, he said.

On the occasion, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam presented the Prime Minister's certificate of merit to the Party Committee, authorities and people of Bac Ninh province for their achievements in the conservation and development of the Bac Ninh’s Quan ho folk songs.
