(HBO) - The organization of sport festivals at communal and town levels in Tan Lac district has been carried out on schedule, ensuring the form, content and scale in line with the direction of the district People’s Committee. Tan Lac is the first district in the province to have completed the grassroots-level sport festivals and is preparing for the sixth district-level sport festival in early September.

According to Director of the district’s Culture and Information Department Bui Minh Hong, after being selected as a model for all-level sport festivals in the province, at the end of 2016, the district People’s Committee set up a sport festival organising board and built a plan for all-level sport festivals of Tan Lac district in 2017.

Tan Lac district also plans to send athletes to attend the provincial-level sport festival in 2018, Hong said.

Tan Lac set the goal of organising sport festivals in all the communes in the district, and earning a place in the top groups at the 6th provincial sport festival in 2018.

Commune-level sport festivals were held from March 19-May 26. Thus, at the end of May, Tan Lac district completed communal and town-level sport festivals on schedule.

Mr. Bui Van Sau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Khen Town said "We have clearly assigned responsibilities to each member of the Steering Committee, each village and hamlet, while making efforts to disseminating relevant information to local officials, Party members and locals. Therefore, the festival attracted crowds of local residents who came to cheer on the competitors. The sport event really became a big festival for local residents.”

After the success of the pilot sport festival in Muong Khen, the Tan Lac district directed communes’ authorities to make thorough preparation for their own sport festivals. Apart from communication activities to raise public awareness of the role and importance of improving health and physical strength, communes in the district have paid attention to infrastructure facilities serving sport festivals, including repairing football grounds, purchasing uniforms and sport equipment, thus facilitating sport training and practice of local residents.

Thanks to good preparations in terms of organisation, referees and infrastructure, sport festivals in communes and towns in Tan Lac district were successfully organised, becoming an event to demonstrate the power of the community, attracting crowds of local people.

On average, each festival saw the participation of between 600 and 1,500 people who performed parades and mass-performances, and featured between 5-7 sports, mainly football, volleyball, marathon, tug of war, crossbow shooting and stick pushing.

The district-level sport festival in Tan Lac will have 11 sports, namely volleyball for men and women, men’s seven-player football, swimming, badminton, marathon, chess, Chinese chess, athletics, tug of war, crossbow shooting and stick pushing. Since the beginning of this year, the sport festival organising board of Tan Lac district has directed sport and culture offices and centres to plan for the organisation of several sport competitions at the district-level sport festival, including volleyball, badminton, swimming and athletics. At present, the district is preparing infrastructure and equipment for the district-level sport festival, which is scheduled for mid-September.
