Ly Hoang Nam continued to assert his position as Vietnam’s no. 1 player by thrashing junior Trinh Linh Giang 2-0 in a Becamex Binh Duong derby on April 24 to claim the men’s singles title of the VTF Pro Tour II 2018.
Ly Hoang Nam proves to
be too strong for other domestic players to beat.
With powerful forehands, Nam, rated 458thin the ATP
rankings, broke no sweat in finishing off his teammate in two straights sets
with the same scores of 6-1.
This is the second time Giang has fallen victim to Nam in a
title-deciding match. Earlier, on February 2, Giang succumbed to a 6-4, 6-1
defeat at the hands of his talented senior in the final of the VTF Pro Tour I
in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
The two consecutive domestic titles he has won so far this
year can be considered a perfect warmup for Hoang Nam ahead of his departure
for the three Vietnam Men’s Futures tournaments in the central province of Thua
Thien-Hue from April 28 to May 20.
On the women’s side, Savanna Ly Nguyen of the Army team
easily thrashed Sy Boi Ngoc of Hung Thinh-Ho Chi Minh City 6-2, 6-2 to take the
overall trophy.
The VTF Pro Tour II
attracted nearly 120 players from ten teams across the country, with cash
prizes of VND40 million (US$1,754) and VND30 million (over US$1,300) offered to
the men’s and women’s singles champions, respectively.
