Hanoi FC pushed Japanese manager Toshiya Miura’s Ho Chi Minh City deeper into crisis after trouncing the southern guests with a commanding score of 6-3 in the 18th round of the V.League 2018 on July 8.

The home side’s forward trio played well, with Hoang Vu Samson netting a poker, while Van Quyet and Quang Hai scored one each.

A tough encounter had been anticipated for bottom-placed HCM City ahead of their trip to Hang Day stadium. Even the most optimistic HCM City fans did not place too much hope on a positive result for their favourite teams against an in-form Hanoi, who have been dominating the provisional table and are 16 points clear of the second-placed team.

Indeed, there was little Toshiya Miura’s side could do during the match, as Hanoi FC took absolute control of the game, with Van Quyet and Quang Hai setting a two-goal advantage for the home side before the break following goals in the 27th and 38th minutes.

After half time, Miura made a number of adjustments in his lineup in the hope of restoring parity.

Hanoi manager Chu Dinh Nghiem sent Hoang Vu Samson onto the field. The Vietnamese forward of Nigerian descent lived up to expectations, scoring four goals in the 69th, 71st, 82nd and 85th minutes.

HCM City’s efforts helped them to pull back three goals, thanks to Matias (79’, 88’) and Santos (injury time).

The humiliating defeat pushes Toshiya Miura’s side deeper into crisis, as they have now gone 11 V.League games without a win. Meanwhile, the resounding victory means Hanoi FC are one step closer to the early 2018 V.League crown.

There was little change to the table’s top four, with Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN, FLC Thanh Hoa, and Quang Ninh Coal defending their places following respective triumphs over Hoang Anh Gia Lai (4-2), Saigon FC (1-0), and XSKT Can Tho (5-1).

Newly promoted Nam Dinh FC lost 2-3 to Song Lam Nghe An, while SHB Da Nang equalled Hai Phong’s 23 points after beating the northern port team with a narrow score of 2-1.

Reigning champions Quang Nam and former title holders Becamex Binh Duong played out the only draw of the 18th round, with four goals scored by each side.
