(HBO) – A high-ranking delegation from the World Bank led by Eva Gutierrez has visited and held a working session with the provincial branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.

At the working session, leader of the
provincial bank welcomed the visit and briefed the guests about the bank’s
operations since 2003, the role and importance of the bank in poverty reduction
and ensuring social welfare in the locality. He introduced the model to help
the poor stabilise lives and escape poverty sustainably, contributing to the
province’s poverty reduction effort.
The bank is offering 18 credit programmes, including loans for poor households
and those recently escape poverty, students living in need, and water supply
and environment hygiene in rural areas.
As of the late September, non-performing loans hit over 2.9 trillion VND, or
99.7 percent of the 2018 plan with 105,756 clients in debt status. Credit
quality was improved. The rate of debt reclamation reached over 90 percent
while overdue debts surpassed 3.324 trillion VND, or 0.11 percent of the total.
Up to 121 wards, communes and towns recorded no overdue debts, accounting for
57.6 percent of the total. Generally, loans were used effectively and to the
right purpose.
Gutierrez, head of the delegation, thanked the General Director of the branch
for his reception, giving the WB an insight into the bank’s role in effectively
carrying out loan programmes for the poor and policy beneficiaries in
Vietnam./.

The northern province of Hoa Binh, with over 467,000 hectares of natural forest and more than 100,000 hectares of production forest, holds significant potential for carbon credit market development.
Replacing substandard houses with more sturdy ones by June 30 is the direction given by Nguyen Phi Long, alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee, at a meeting held in early March by the provincial Steering Committee for the programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the needy.
