(HBO) - An urgent project to fix a steep part in the eastern slope of Ong Tuong hill in Hoa Binh has received due attention from the provincial authorities and people in Phuong Lam ward (Hoa Binh city). The project has been sped up and is projected to complete next month.

Ground levelling work in the project to prevent landslides in the east of the Ong Tuong hill (Hoa Binh city).

In mid-October 2017, Hoa Binh city suffered from three landslides triggered by historic downpours in the east of Ong Tuong hill, former Cham Mat ward and Thai Binh ward in Hoa Binh city.

Of note, offices of the provincial Party committee, People’s Council and provincial agencies are located below and next to the high-risk areas.

To protect people’s lives and assets as well as public infrastructure and traffic flow in An Duong Vuong route, the Hoa Binh People’s Committee has asked for the acceleration of the urgent project to address landslide-prone areas in the east of Ong Tuong hill, along with three residential clusters in the former Cham Mat ward and one in Thai Binh ward.

Most of the local households in the former Cham Mat ward and Thai Binh ward have resettled in safer places. A management board on projects for agriculture and rural development submitted a plan for approval of the provincial People’s Committee on the arrangement of bidding to select the project’s constructor.

For the project to address landslides in Ong Tuong hill’s eartern part, the contractor had rolled out measures to reduce pressure on the area and drain water, among others.

Nguyen Huu Thien from the management board said that the project has been carried out with a budget of nearly 340 billion VND (14.77 million USD), of which 263 billion USD was for construction and about 15 billion VND for compensation and support for resettlement.

He added that the amount of work done equalled 264 billion VND as of May 30 this year and that of assembling tasks hit 246.92 billion VND. Investment capital disbursement stood at 246.76 billion VND./.
