In recent years, the commune has focused on propaganda, raising the awareness of the people in protecting the forests, preventing the deforestation behavior, and trespassing the forrest resources illegally.

The officers of Van Son commune (Tan Lac) are propagating and reminding the people to raise their awareness of the forest protection.

Mr. Bui Thanh Duong, the Vice Chairman of the Communal People's Committee says: "Strengthening the forest protection, the commune has been cooperating with the functional forces to regularly organize patrols and promptly detect the acts of encroachment and illegal deforestation. The hundred-year-old large trees have been assigned to each hamlet to manage, guard, and put them into the village convention. At the same time, we have actively been propagating the Law on Forest Protection and Development, raising the people's awareness of the benefits from the forest protection to life and the economic development”.

The commune has an area bordering Ba Thuoc district (Thanh Hoa), the people of the neiboring province often go in and out of the area, transporting goods, so the patrol is strictly implemented. Currently, 17 out of the 17 hamlets have established the forest protection groups, each group has 6-7 members, including the village chiefs, the militiamen, and the local rangers. In the times of hot or dry weather, the protection groups increase the frequency of patrols to promptly grasp the situation when something happens.

The old forests inTon, Ho, and Hay Duoi hamlets are located in Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong conservation area, walking along the hamlets it is not difficult to encounter the big, old trees when walking along the hamlets. Thanks to the coordination with the forest rangers, the appropriate authorities and mass organizations to do well the propaganda work, there has been no deforestation or encroachment in the hamlets for many years, and the large old trees and forests have been protected. In the past year, the commune planted many new hectares of forest, increasing the commune's coverage to 52%.

Mr. Bui Van Long, the Head of Hay Duoi hamlet says: "Through the meetings held in the hamlet and the loudspeakers, the people are regularly informed about the responsibility of the forest protection. Thereby, it helps raising the awareness and understanding the importance of the forests to nature and life. The valuable old trees are located on the land of any household, that household has to take responsibility for the strict care and protection. The carpentry for the columns and the houses on stilts does not take place. The material is replaced by cheaper industrial wood, or other environmentally friendly materials. At the same time, the village regularly monitors the situation, promptly reports and listens to the direction of the local government. Thereby, the forest in the commune has been preserved”.

In order to raise the people's awareness in the forest protection, the commune has cooperated with the functional forces so that the people sign the commitments in the residential areas, contributing to building a convention, and upholding the responsibility for the forest protection of each individual. They regularly update and maintain the contact with the forest rangers in the area and the neighboring provinces. There has been no illegal logging or encroachment of forests for many years. In addition, the forest fire prevention and fighting has been strictly directing. The commune has been appointing the officials to guide the people on how to properly clean the vegetation and burn the fields so as not to cause large fires to destroy the existing forest area.

In parallel with the forest protection, the commune has been mobilizing the people to actively plant forests and exploit the potential and advantages of the forests for the forestry development and community tourism services. Currently, the commune grows a variety of trees such as acacia, chukrasia, and Lanh Hanh ... which develop well, and they are processed centrally with the stable output.
