(HBO) – Vice Secretary of the Hoa Binh Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Quang led a delegation to visit Bac Son commune, Tan Lac district, on November 16.
Bac Son is a mountainous commune in Tan Lac
district, which is 30km from the district’s centre with nearly 100 percent of its
population being ethnic minority people. The commune has a kindergarten, a
primary and secondary school with a total of 341 students and 42 teachers and education
managers. The commune is working to universalise education for five-year-old
children.

The quality of education in the commune has
been improved over the past time. In 2016-2017 academic year, the rate of diligent
children was 94.2 percent while the proportion of underweight and
stunted-growth kids was brought down to 2.9 percent and 8 percent respectively.
All Grade 5 pupils completed primary education while nearly 19 percent of secondary
students made good and excellent academic performance. The commune had 22
outstanding students at the district level. It aims to have at least one school
meeting national standards by 2020.

Speaking at a working session with communal authorities,
Nguyen Van Quang, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman
of the provincial People’s Committee, said the province always pays attention
to investing in building infrastructure, promoting socio-economic development,
and improving living standards for people in mountainous communes. In the field
of education and training, the province prioritises investment in reinforcing
and building schools and providing teaching and learning equipment for disadvantaged
and remote areas, as well as creating the most favourable conditions for these
areas to develop education comprehensively.
He praised efforts made by Bac Son’s
authorities, people, officials, teachers and students in raising the quality of
teaching and learning. He reminded the commune to focus on improving the
capacity of the managerial and teaching staff in the coming time. The staff
should raise responsibility and actively improve knowledge and professional
capability to develop education in the mountainous areas. He also suggested
enhancing communication campaigns and encouraging the private sector to involve
in educational development. He also directed the provincial Department of
Education and Training and the People’s Committee of Tan Lac district to study
the school infrastructure building proposal of Bac Son commune and realise it
in 2018.
The Standing Board of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee met on March 18 to review and guide major investment projects aimed at boosting local socio-economic development.

The northern province of Hoa Binh, with over 467,000 hectares of natural forest and more than 100,000 hectares of production forest, holds significant potential for carbon credit market development.
Replacing substandard houses with more sturdy ones by June 30 is the direction given by Nguyen Phi Long, alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee, at a meeting held in early March by the provincial Steering Committee for the programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the needy.
