(HBO) – The route on the Da River runs through Hoa Binh province with a total length of 100km. However, up to two-thirds of the vessels operating on the route have failed to satisfy business conditions, thus posing a high risk to inland waterway safety, according to the provincial traffic safety board.

In fact, it is not easy to enforce current
regulations on vessel registration as most of the vessels have been converted
from cargo boats that do not meet standards set in the new regulations.
To ensure traffic safety on this route,
especially during festive seasons, relevant forces have made active efforts.
However, due to a lack of personnel and equipment, they are unable to monitor
the entire area.
Nong Van Quyet, deputy head of the waterway
traffic police team, said in the first quarter of 2023, the team handled 72
cases of violations of inland waterway traffic order and safety regulations,
with a total fine amounting to 488.3 million VND (20,796 USD), and seized four
vehicles.
To address difficulties in vessel registration,
the province has proposed the Ministry of Transport consider appropriate
standards for vehicles operating on lakes that are less affected by storms.
The provincial traffic safety board has also
asked competent forces to step up the communications work, promptly detect and
handle violations by organisations and individuals, conduct inspections over
the observance of safety conditions by vessels, and remove difficulties and
obstacles to the registration work./.
