Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania and Ethiopia Nguyen Kim Doanh on September 13 met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister (FM) Workneh Gebeyehu who proposed that the Vietnamese Government consider reopening its embassy in the capital city of Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian FM said that the Government and people of Ethiopia treasure friendship with Vietnam.

He said that the current partnership has yet to meet the expectations of the Ethiopian and Vietnamese governments and people.

Ambassador Doanh suggested that the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry soon re-organise a visit of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to Vietnam, which was postponed in October last year.

During the visit, the two sides can finalise some agreements, including one on investment encouragement and protection, and one on visa exemptions for holders of official passports and another on consultations between the two foreign ministries, he said.

The ambassador also proposed that the Ethiopian Government create favourable conditions for Vietnam’s Viettel Group to invest in Ethiopia.

Gebeyehu pledged that he will ask the Ethiopian Government to continue the two countries’ working agenda.
