(HBO) - Hubei Province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, reported 17 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 17 deaths on Monday (March 9), the provincial health commission said Tuesday (March 10).

All the new infections were in Wuhan, the provincial capital and epicenter of the outbreak.

The latest report brought the total confirmed cases in the hard-hit province to 67,760 and total deaths to 3,024.

Wuhan reported 16 deaths on Monday. In total, the city has registered 49,965 confirmed cases and 2,404 deaths.

The province also saw 1,152 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Monday, bringing the total number of discharged patients in the province to 47,585.

Among the 14,957 hospitalized patients, 3,855 were still in severe condition and another 846 in critical condition.

The commission also said Hubei had 246 suspected cases after 44 suspected cases were ruled out while 13 new suspected cases were reported on Monday.

* Wuhan on Monday suspended another public-facility-turned temporary hospital as the number of COVID-19 patients continued to drop in the city, bringing the number of closed temporary hospitals to 14.

* A total of 118 professionals specializing in elderly care were sent from three other provinces, and the other 50 were sent from other cities of Hubei Province to Wuhan for one-on-one support.

* A range of measures have been taken to help disadvantaged groups of the elderly, orphans and disabled people living in civil affairs service institutions overcome the difficulties brought by the coronavirus epidemic.

* Long-term care facilities in Wuhan have tested all residents for the virus and hospitalized those confirmed with infections.

* Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday arrived in Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, for an inspection of the epidemic prevention and control work in Hubei Province and its capital city Wuhan.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will visit and express regards to medical workers, military officers and soldiers, community workers, police officers, officials and volunteers who have been fighting the epidemic on the front line, as well as patients and residents during the inspection.
