Bui Thi Mo, Director of Mo Duc Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Nhan Nghia Commune, Lac Son district, who has started her career in agriculture and enjoyed initial success in the circular organic snail farming and processing model.
One year ago, Bui Thi Mo, a resident of Dan village, Nhan Nghia commune, established Mo Duc agricultural cooperative with a hope to develop the model of circular farming and processing of snail.
Along with distributing snail products, Mo has also produced "Hoa Binh snail patties” which are being supplied to Sun Group and CooPlus, as well as some local restaurants.
In July, receiving support from the local Farmers’ Association, Mo launched a shop selling safe agricultural products in Vu Ban town, bringing her snail products and other agricultural and OCOP products of the district closer to consumers.
In Nhan Nghia commune, Bui Van Nhung, Director of the Nhung Van turmeric starch company, is also a farmer. Nhung said in order to develop the business scale from a household level to a company, he studied the market demand, researched new products, and applied modern technologies to producing turmeric starch.
Currently, Nhung Van turmeric starch products have had good quality and competitive prices, becoming the first product of the district to be certified with 4-star by the OCOP (One Commune-One Product) Programme. The products have been exported to the UK.
Along with affirming his reputation and position in the market, Nhung has focused on expanding production, expanding the area of turmeric growing area from one hectare to five hectares in neighbouring communes, mostly Mien Doi commune.
Together with creating regular jobs for four labourers, he also buys raw turmeric from local farmers, contributing to improving income for thousands of households in the region.
Taking advantage of the vast hills and forests, Quach Van Son, Director of Thanh An Agricultural and General Service Cooperative in Doi Ca village, My Thanh commune, has built and developed a brand for local honey products.
After being recognised as a 3-star OCOP product, "Thanh An Honey" has seen higher sales and high evaluation by consumers for its quality and design, which has helped promote resources and craft of locals. Member households have also actively sought markets for the product and enhance linkage in production.
Bui Van Khanh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lac Son, said that over the recent years, along with the new-style rural area building programme, the OCOP programme has been implemented effectively with an increasing number of businesses and cooperatives.
Currently, the district has seven businesses operating in the agricultural sector, along with 60 cooperatives employing more than 700 members, creating jobs for about 850 labourers. The active Muong farmers like Mo, Nhung, and Son have made important contributions to the agricultural restructuring and transformation of the locality, providing jobs for many labourers from ethnic minority groups and promoting the building of new-style rural areas as well as the local socio-economic growth.
