(HBO) - With the thought of implementing Uncle Ho’s teaching "Doctors as gentle mothers", over the past 10 years, Dr. Bui Thi Chung, a staff of Dong Nghe Commune Health Center, Da Bac District always clings to the village to protect the village and protect the public health.

Dr. Bui Thi Chung, Dong Nghe Commune Health Center, Da Bac has been clinging to the villages for medical examination for her highland local people for many years.

Having graduated from Medical Intermediate School in Hoa Binh city, Ms. Bui Thi Chung decided to come back and work at Suoi Nanh commune medical center, Da Bac district. It is a remote commune and it is more than 70 km far from the center of the district, with difficult travelling and harsh natural conditions. Ethnic minority people accounts for over 90% of the population in the commune; the proportion of poor households is quite high. Therefore, the condition of people's health care is still lacking. Understanding the difficulties of local people, Ms. Chung always tries to overcome the shortage of medicines, physical conditions to take care of local people's health.

During her working time, she was sent to Thai Nguyen Medical University for further study. After her completion, she was assigned to Dong Nghe commune health center. This is the most remote and most difficult commune of Da Bac district with complicated terrain and sparse population. However, the commune health center only has 4 people; she is the only doctor, so most of the medical examination, treatment and implementation of the target programs of the industry are all taken over by her.

According to statistics, every year the examination center has nearly 2,000 examinations for patients, in addition, the center regularly visits and has medical examinations in the villages of the commune. Due to long distances, difficult circumstances, some villages are more than 10 km far from the center of the commune through the forest path, so each of her business trips would last a few days.

In remote villages, the knowledge of local people is quite low; therefore, personal health care issue has many limitations. Ms. Chung said: in the highland area, despite the fresh air, in the cold season, many people suffer from respiratory diseases; the center staff must always be on duty, examine and give treatment for patients. To prevent diseases, center staffs regularly propagate to people how to prevent, especially in the transition climate period or extremely cold weather.  It is most notable for infants with severe illness, the trasmission to the larger hospital is very difficult, expensive, and fatal for patients and family members.

Ms. Xa Thi Luu in Nghe village, Dong Nghe commune said: Previously, when being sick, people were very afraid to come for medical examination and treatment. They often chose to stay at home for worshipping or self-healing. They were afraid to bring the patients to the center because they thought that there was no doctor so the medical examination and treatment was no use. Since the doctor Chung came to work, local people regularly have visited the commune health center for medical examination and treatment. In cases of severe illness, the referral will be transferred to the larger hospital without keeping at home as before.
