(HBO) – The historic downpours in Hoa Binh province in last October caused widespread flooding and landslides, especially in mountainous areas, threatening life, property and production of local people. The province has over 5,900 households directly affected by natural disasters and in need of being evacuated promptly and for a long-term.

Households in Nam Son commune (Tan Lac district) set up houses in the resettlement area to move before the 2018 rainy season.

Competent agencies reported that by the beginning of April 2018, the implementation of 12 urgent resettlement areas had basically fulfilled set requirements. Five resettlement areas in Da Bac district completed and welcomed 25 households of Nhap hamlet. Meanwhile, 23 households built houses in the Lau Bai resettlement area in Vay Nua district, and house construction of ten others in the area is still underway. All 31 households of the resettlement area of Tup hamlet, Tien Phong commune, received lands while eight of them built houses. All households of the resettlement area of Bua Coc hamlet in Suoi Nanh commune, also received lands and 40 households completed house construction. Twenty out of 29 households in the resettlement area of Ke hamlet, Muong Chieng district, completed house construction.

Besides, three resettlement areas in Nam Son commune, Tan Lac district, were promptly formed in order to help 62 households resettle before this year’s rainy season.

The People’s Committees of Yen Thuy and Mai Chau districts have coordinated with each other to implement resettlement areas in Lac Sy and Tan Dan communes, which are prone to landslides.

To speed up the implementation of the projects, on April 6, 2018, the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee issued Document No. 473/UBND-NNTN, asking People’s Committees of Da Bac, Kim Boi and Tan Lac district, and Hoa Binh city, to mobilise human resources and materials to move households to new residential areas. The implementation of power, water, road, dyke and sewage facilities should be sped up in order to complete resettlement projects by April 30, 2018.

Mai Chau and Yen Thuy districts were also asked to focus human resources and materials on land clearance, land allocation to households and resident evacuation.

The document also stressed the need to speed up the construction of infrastructure and complete the project before the 2018 flooding season.

The provincial departments of agriculture and rural development, natural resources and environment, construction, and science-technology were also urged to promptly coordinate with investors of the project to push the implementation of resettlement projects in the city and districts under their charge.

The Hoa Binh Power Company will enhance coordination with the city and districts to promptly set up medium-voltage power lines and transmission stations at residential areas. Chairpersons of People’s Committees of the city and districts were requested to report the progress of the resettlement projects to the Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee every Friday afternoon./.
