(HBO)- The drug crime investigation section under the provincial police has coordinated with local officials of 11 districts and towns as well as relevant agencies to keep close track of the methods and plots used by drug criminals, in order to effectively fight the crime.

A meeting of the drug crime investigation section (under the provincial police) to discuss operation plans

In the first six months of 2018, the provincial police detected 104 drug crimes, arrested 134 suspects and seized 41 heroin bricks, 14,520 synthetic narcotic pills, 3,998.51 grams of meth, 23.78 grams of ketamine, 119 million VND and many exhibits.

The drug crime investigation section has coordinated with the drug crime investigation agency under the Ministry of Public Security and public security forces of Mai Chau and Tan Lac districts and Hoa Binh city to uncover 13 cases involving 29 suspects, confiscating more than 324 heroin bricks, 4,496 synthetic narcotic pills, 33,982 grams of meth along with cash and related exhibits.

At present, besides heroin, there is a rising trend of using synthetic narcotic substances among young people, resulting in serious consequences on the community and society as a whole. Therefore, along with investigation, the anti-drug police force is intensifying educational activities in residential areas on the harms of illegal drug and ways to prevent drug abuse. Hundreds of leaflets have been distributed to residents, and many posters and banners were hung in public places to deliver the message. The force also works with schools and families to encourage families and students to sign "saying no to drug” commitments.

Along with fighting drug crime, the drug crime investigation section also joined hand with relevant departments and agencies to help local drug users to wean the habit. However, the process to sent drug users to rehabilitation facilities is hindered by complicated procedures. In the first half of the year, the force completed 153 dossiers for drug users, 8 more than the figure for the same period last year.
