The event was held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia in cooperation with the Vietnamese Defence Attaché, the Vietnamese Association and the Vietnamese Veterans Association in Russia to pay tribute to the contributions of the former Russian and Soviet experts.

Speaking at the meeting, Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy, Nguyen Quynh Mai, expressed pride at meeting the former Russian military experts who helped the people of Vietnam during the resistance wars.

Counselor Mai read the letter from Vietnamese Ambassador in Russia, Ngo Duc Manh, sent to Chairman of the Association of Russian Former Military Experts in Vietnam, N. Kolesnik, stressing the gratitude for the invaluable assistance that the Russian experts have given to the Vietnamese people. The diplomat confirmed that Russian friends have always been with Vietnam in the most difficult years and the Vietnamese people will never forget their support.

Tens of thousands of Russian military experts sacrificed their youth for the independence and unification of Vietnam. In recognition of these tremendous contributions, the Party and State of Vietnam have repeatedly awarded them the highest honourary medals. Russian veterans continue to actively work to strengthen the brotherly friendship between the two, contributing to the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Delegates at the event highlighted the sound traditions between Vietnam and Russia, while reviewing the memories in participating in the struggle for national defence with support from the former Soviet Union and Russia’s people and military experts.

They also exchanged books and artifacts and enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine at the meeting, which is a grateful activity demonstrating the tradition of "drinking water, remembering its source" by the Vietnamese people.
