A strong cold air system is moving southwards and is expected to hit the northern region by September 7, bringing rains to the whole area with temperatures plunging by 5-10C.



The North is prepared to welcome strong cold air system from September 7 with rains forecast for the whole region.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from tomorrow morning, the cold air will affect the North and then extend to the North Central region and certain parts of the Mid-Central region.

The northeast monsoon due to the first cold spell in the autumn-winter season this year will cool down the temperature in the North and North Central localities, with the lowest forecast estimated to be 21-24C, even 19-22C in the northern mountainous areas.

The national weather service also warned of strong winds and rough seas in the Gulf of Tonkin from Friday night.

Downpours with rainfall from 50-100mm, combined with thunderstorms, are forecast for the northern mountainous and midland areas from September 7. On September 8 and 9, heavy rains are likely to extend to the south and concentrate in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri.
