(HBO) - "In the past, people in Thung Rech faced difficulties. They didn’t have enough rice to eat, and almost were illiterate as they could not afford school. Now, this is a well-off village, and many organisations and individuals are exploring to invest here,” said Bach Duc Duc, head of the Association of the Elderly of Tu Son commune, Kim Boi district, and former Secretary of the communal Party Committee.

Residents in Thung Rech area have been seeking ways to change crop structure for development and wealth, making their native land prosperous. Recently, many local households have grown passion-fruit and sacha inchi plants for commercial production, initially proving effective.

Mr Lap’s household in Kim Bac village has cultivated passion-fruit on over two hectares, and piloted sacha inchi plants and other crops, earning more than 500 million VND per year.

According to Bach Cong Duong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tu Son commune, locals have been changing to farm crops and livestock in order to meet the market demand. Many models have proved effective, particularly passion-fruit and sacha inchi growing models.

Passion-fruit plants yielded 50 tonnes per hectare in 2019. With retail price at 15,000 VND per kilogram, the crop has become a new livelihood for Thung Rech residents.

Many locals with new mindset in building farming models have contributed to giving a facelift to the locality and creating changes in local economic development./.
