(HBO) –Helping farmers consume stockpiles of fruits and vegetables is a familiar activity to deal with the annual "bumper harvest, lowered prices” situation. Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the activity has become more vibrant, widespread and professional and actively responded by local residents.

Representatives of Tan Lac district’s Women’s Union and "Nhan Ai” club hold the programme "Rescuing farm produce” for local farmers

It is time for the harvest of chayote, turnip and squash, but the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in stagnation in the transportation of farm produce to supermarkets, restaurants, hotels and industrial parks, making it hard for farmers to consume them. Via a survey, the provincial Farmers’ Union devised a plan to help farmers via direct sales and sending letters to agencies, departments and mass organisations to seek help.

In order to step up a campaign calling on women to develop the household economy, Tan Lac district’s Women’s Union launched the programme "Rescuing highland farm produce” in the first two weeks of June. In collaboration with the district "Nhan Ai” club and women’s unions of several communes, the Tan Lac district Women’s Union helped members of the Quyet Chien cooperative consume fruits and vegetables with results beyond expectations.

The programme lit up the spirit of solidarity of the Vietnamese nation. As a majority of residents still live on agriculture – a pillar of the economy, helping with farm produce consumption is extremely necessary, thereby laying a foundation to accomplish goals for the 2021-2025 period, including developing agriculture in a safe and efficient manner, producing goods in tandem with processing industry, tourism, environmental and ecological protection, and climate change adaptation, towards developing local agriculture to a new height. Such contributed to fulfilling the "dual goal” of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and restoring socio-economic development as planned by the province./.
