(HBO) - The "Godmother” program has been implemented to support and nurture the orphaned children due to Covid-19 epidemics launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union with the humanitarian meaning of both easing the pain and becoming a strong destination so that the children can overcome the difficult situations and create conditions for their comprehensive development. The Provincial Women's Union has developed a plan and launched it to all of the cadres and the women members and connected with other organizations and individuals to get the participation and hand joining of the whole society.

Responding to the "Godmother” program, the Women's Union of Luong Son district at all levels has been receiving sponsors and supported the care and nurturing of the orphans and the children with extremely difficult situations in the area.

Having the opportunity to participate in the program of giving support to the "Godmother” program of the Hoa Binh Women's Union, the 2 orphans of Ky Son ward can partly feel the loss and disadvantage of the children as well as sharing the emotion with the loving godmothers. Lu Thi Hong Loi lost her mother when she was born, and the pain did not stop when she lost her father. With the sad eyes Loi said "Thank you moms”, which made everyone unable to hold back their tears. Currently, she is living with the family of her mother’s uncle with the support, share, care and teaching of the godmothers – the compassionate, loving cadres and the women members. For Dinh Tu Anh from group 3, Ky Son ward, Covid-19 epidemics made him an orphan of his father when he was just over 4 years old. When the father died, he was still bewildered and did not understand where he was going… Ms. Vu Thi Huong, the Head of the Women's Union of Ky Son Ward said: The pain of losing parents is an irreparable pain. As the godmothers, the cadres and women members always love and share with them like their own children.

Ms. Pham Thi Phuong, the Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Hoa Binh city says: "Visiting and giving support to the children, we can feel the faith and hope being lit up in their eyes. That is the motivation for the Women’s Union to make more efforts in implementing the "Godmother” program. By many different methods and ways, however, the cadres and the city’s women members have had meaningful and practical works to support the children with difficult situations. For example, the Women's Union of the City’s Public Security has mobilized the constribution of its members to create financial resources. Currently, they are sponsoring, supporting and raising two orphans at Tan Thinh ward. The Women's Union of the city has sponsored 13 children. So far. The good news is that the "Godmother” program has not been implemented for a long time, however, it has received a high consensus and response from the community, the cadres, the women members and other branches and mass organizations in the locality”.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, the Vice President of the Provincial Central Women's Union, from the end of 2021, based on the launching content and guidance of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union on implementing the "Godmother” program, the Provincial Women's Union has issued a guide to implement the program at all levels in order to help the Women's Union at all levels, its affiliated units, organizations and individuals who voluntarily participate so that they can understand the contents and the methods of implementing the program and join hands with the party committees, the authorities, the fronts and the mass organizations to take care of the orphaned because of Covid-19 epidemics or other causes.

Following the guidance of the Central Women’s Union, by May 2022, the Women's Union of the province, the districts, the city and other affiliated units have compiled a list, connected and mobilized the units, the organizations and the individuals to sponsor, care for and nurture 66 orphans. Many units have provided from 2 to 5 million VND a year for the children and they will support them until they are 18 years old. There are units supporting the study expenses, the daily essentials…

"This is a program with the profound humanistic meaning, demonstrating the spirit and responsibility of the cadres and the women members in solving the social problems. Besides, the "Godmother” program has been supporting the authorities at all levels to help, care for and nurture the orphans so that no one is left behind… In order that the program can truly spread and be sustainable, the Women's Unions at all levels continue forming the networks to manage the program, reviewing the children with difficult circumstances in order to provide timely support. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the connections, mobilize more and more organizations, units and individuals to accompany and support to bring love to the orphans, helping them with a brighter future,” emphasized Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Van.
