The "cow bank” programme, implemented by the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) since 2010, has benefited many disadvantaged families in Tan Lac district through the provision of breeding cows. Performed by the district Red Cross, the model has provided hundreds of breeding cows to impoverished and disadvantaged individuals, helping them improve their economic conditions and establish sustainable livelihoods, thus uplifting themselves out of poverty.

Bui Thi Nun, residing in Ngay Hamlet, My Hoa Commune (Tan Lac district), receives a breeding cow from the "cow bank" programme.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Tra, Chairwoman of the Tan Lac district Red Cross, stated that the "cow bank" model is evaluated as an innovative model that brings about practical effectiveness, helping beneficiaries acquire additional production materials, thus developing their economy and creating sustainable livelihoods to increase income.

Starting from a few pairs of breeding cows, the model has been expanded across the district, bringing more hope of poverty alleviation to local beneficiaries, she stressed.

The programme has donated hundreds of breeding cows to poor households in difficult and mountainous areas of the district such as Van Son, Quyet Chien, Ngo Luong, Phu Cuong, and Suoi Hoa, Tra said.

Since 2023, the district’s Red Cross and donors have donated 18 breeding cows with a total value of over 300 million VND (nearly 11,800 USD). These breeding cattle are well cared for and have good reproductive performance. Each cow brings more joy and hope to the poor and disadvantaged.

The programme has contributed to promoting poverty reduction, local economic development, and effectively implementing social security policies in the locality.
