The Serie A season could be extended to September or October, the head of the Italian FA said on Sunday, warning that there could be an "avalanche of litigation” if it was not settled on the field.

* The PGA Championship, one of golf's four majors, has been rescheduled for Aug. 6-9 after being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday. The PGA Championship was originally planned for May 14-17 but the PGA of America announced on March 17 that the event had been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

* Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was a dominant winner on his Formula One esports debut on Sunday while World Cup-winning England cricketer Ben Stokes brought up the rear in a virtual Vietnam Grand Prix. The 28-lap race was the second in a series organised to provide some entertainment for fans starved of real-life action due to the new coronavirus pandemic that has stalled most sport worldwide.

* Ehson Boboev scored in stoppage time to give Khatlon a 2-1 win over Istaravshan on Sunday as Tajikistan's league season kicked off on schedule despite most football around the world being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The match was played without any fans in attendance following World Health Organization warnings that people in Tajikistan should avoid crowds, although the ex-Soviet Union state has not confirmed a single case of the coronavirus.

* Former New Orleans Saints kicker Tom Dempsey has died at the age of 73 after contracting COVID-19, the NFL team said on Sunday. Dempsey, who was born without toes on his right foot, joined the Saints out of college in 1969 and in November 1970 set a record for the longest field goal with a game-winning 63-yard kick against the Detroit Lions.

* UEFA has denied there is an Aug 3 deadline to complete this season's Champions League after a report by German broadcaster ZDF quoted the body's President Aleksander Ceferin as saying the competition had to be finished by that date.

* Belgium's famed Tour of Flanders cycle race went virtual on Sunday after being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, with 12 cyclists pedalling it out in isolation on stationary bikes hooked up to a video-game recreation of the Belgian countryside.

* The IBF's mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev said he will donate half of his purse from the world heavyweight title fight against Briton Anthony Joshua to help medical workers fight the "devilish" coronavirus. The 38-year-old Bulgarian is expected to earn around US$5 million from the fight, which has been postponed due to the pandemic, having originally been scheduled for Jun 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

* Organisers expect this year's Twenty20 World Cup to be a success even if it has to vie with Australian rules football and rugby league for viewers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the head of the organising committee said on Sunday. The Oct. 18-Nov. 15 tournament was slotted into Australia's sports calendar between the end of the football season and the beginning of summer cricket to draw maximum attention.
