The Hoa Binh Steering Committee for the implementation of the child protection programme on May 28 launched the action month for children in 2024 with the theme of "practical actions, prioritising resources for children”. The event drew Bui Duc Hinh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; and Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and head of the Hoa Binh Steering Committee for the implementation of the child protection programme.

Hinh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the
provincial People’s Council, presents gifts and certificates of merit of the
National Fund for Vietnamese Children to five students with disadvantaged
backgrounds and showing good academic performance.
Addressing the launching ceremony, Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the
provincial People’s Committee, underlined that the action month for children
and fundraising for the provincial Fund for Children are important, showing the
attention of the local administration, sectors, organisations, parents,
teachers, and the entire society to caring for children, creating chances for
equal development of the children in general and those with disadvantages in
particular.
Hoa Binh currently has more than 226,000 children, accounting for 26% of the
province’s total population, including 3,000 disadvantaged children and 53,000
others with risks of falling into difficult situation, mostly from poor and
near-poor families.
Over the years, the province has paid great attention to the caring and
education of the children with many practical activities, while public
awareness of child protection and care has been greatly improved.
Outstanding activities include the organisation of annual children’s forums at
all levels, dialogues between local leaders and children, the signing of
commitments to protecting children in families and community, and children
sponsorships.
However, the province has still faced a number of problems in the work,
including inadequate care for children in mountainous areas, a lack of safe
entertainment places for children, and accidents involving children.
Toan asked local departments, sectors, organisations, and the People’s
Committees in districts and communes to effectively implement the action month
with practical activities, considering it a major task.
It is necessary to focus on strengthening communications to encourage people to
follow the Party and State’s policies and laws regarding child protection,
caring and education, especially the Law on Children, while ensuring the
reasonable allocation of resources for the realisation of policies on children,
he said.
He also stressed the need to organise more seminars, forums, and dialogues to
listen to the voice of children, thus giving timely response.
At the launching ceremony, many departments, sectors, organisations, banks,
businesses, and charity clubs in the province donated money to the provincial
Fund for Children. The National Fund for Vietnamese Children presented five
gift packages worth 3 million VND (117.86 USD) each to five children with
disadvantaged children with outstanding academic performance in the province.
The provincial Fund for Children also presented 20 gift packages for needy
children in Hoa Binh city, while the People’s Committee and the Red Cross
Society of Hoa Binh city also presented 67 gift packages to needy children in
the city.
In the action month, the provincial Fund for Children aims to present 250 gift
packages and 55 bicycles worth 328 million VND (12,887 USD) to disadvantaged
children across the province.
