Donating land is not an easy decision for any family or individual, especially for farmers who consider land as an extremely important and valuable asset. However, many locals in Mai Chau district have voluntarily given their land to the State for security-defence reinforcement in the locality, serving the common interest of the whole society.

Tran Van Thu (first, left) and some households in Na Meo villahe, Na Phon commune of Mai Chau, have donated their land for the construction of some works.

Ngan Van Thu, 65, a Na Meo villager, in Na Phon commune who is a 27-year Party member and a veteran, clearly understands the significance of the building of defence and anti-terrorism drill areas in peacetime. Therefore, he has pioneered in donating land for the work. He persuaded his family members to donate 1,500 sq.m of garden land to the State.

Thu said that this piece of land is very important to his family, in which they cultivate maize and cassava as animal feed. However, after listening to explanation from the Military Command of Mai Chau, his family voluntarily donated the land to the State with a hope to make contributions to the protection of the homeland, he said.

His meaningful action has inspired many others in the village.

Vi Van Trong, another resident of Na Meo, has donated 1,600 sq.m of land to the State. His six-member family mostly lives on farming and breeding, therefore the piece of land is of extreme important to them. However, following the communications from the district’s Military Command and realising the meaningful action that Thu had done, Trong and his family decided to donate the land for the construction of defence and anti-terrorism drill area, contributing to maintaining political stability and security as well as social order and safety for socio-economic development of the district.

Lieutenant Colonel Hang A Phu, Deputy Political Commissar of Mai Chau district Military Command, said that as part of the efforts to realise the Party’s defence and military policies, especially Resolution No. 28-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2013, on the strategy to protect the Fatherland in the new situation and the resolutions of the Party congresses at all levels in the 2020 – 2025 tenure on continuing to show strong performance in of ensuring political stability security, social order and safety in the province, avoiding passiveness in any situation, over the years, the district Party Committee, People’s Council, and People’s Committee have drastically and concertedly implemented many solutions to raise defence strengths, including building a firm defensive area and strong armed forces, thus protecting the Fatherland early and from afar, and contributing to successfully implementing the tasks of national construction and defence.

With the active engagement of the political system, especially the support of locals like Thu and Trong, to date, works in the defensive area have been completed and put into use, becoming an important link in the defend chain for the protection of the northwestern gateway.

The act of Thu and Trong has shown the firm bond between the Party and people, reinforcing villagers’ confidence in and support to the policy, and encouraging them to donate land to build works in the defensive area serving military training activities and combat readiness, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment serving the building of the prosperous, beautiful and civilised homeland.
