Chairman
Chung made the statement at a ceremony held in Hanoi on August 17 to honour
winners of the 2017 ‘Bui Xuan Phai – For the Love of Hanoi’ awards.
He
expressed his thanks to the Vietnam News Agency and the family of the
talented painter Bui Xuan Phai for hosting the awards, which marks its tenth
anniversary this year.
The
awards have recognised the dedications of Vietnamese people and foreigners
who share their love for Hanoi and have worked out many initiatives to
improve the image of the capital city. The awards include four sub awards
which includ the Grand prize, Best Idea, Best Job and Best Artwork prizes.
This
year’s Grand Prize honoured 99-year-old veteran culturist Huu Ngoc who have
authored numerous articles and publications on culture of Vietnam with
emphasis on Hanoi . One of his books, ‘A Sketch of Vietnamese Culture’ in
French and in English, was given by the Vietnamese Government as a special
present to the heads of state at the 7th Francophone Meeting in Hanoi in
1997.
The Best
Idea prize went to the Hanoi Department of Traffic for its project on
bettering the management of road transport in Hanoi in an effort to reduce
traffic jams and environmental pollution in the city in the 2017-2020 period.
Paul
George Harding, a US war veteran, won the Best Job prize in recognition of
his effort of removing advertisements and posters posted illegally on public
walls in Hanoi.
The Best
Job prize was also presented to Hanoi authorities for setting up a pedestrian
zone on streets in the vicinity of Hoan Kiem Lake, from Friday to Sunday
between the hours of 7 P.M to midnight in order to provide a cultural venue
for visitors every weekend.
Two Best
Artwork prizes were awarded to photographer Nguyen Huu Bao and late writer
Bang Son for fully expressing the life and culture of Hanoi through their
works.
