Athletes compete at the National Road Cycling Championship 2024.

This year’s National Road Cycling Championship featured male and female runners from provinces and cities such as Hanoi, An Giang, Dong Thap, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Vinh Long.

According to Quach Thi Kieu, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the National Road Cycling Championship is part of the national high-performance sports system, organised annually in coordination with the Vietnam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation. The competition aims to promote cycling as a sport movement nationwide and to assess athletes' professional skills, identifying outstanding cyclists for the national cycling team to compete in international events.

The championship included events such as the 100km women’s individual and team mass start, the 160km men’s individual and team mass start, a 50km women’s team time trial, and an 80km men’s team time trial. The highlight of this year’s championship was the 100km women’s individual and team mass start race on the morning of October 19 and the 160km men’s individual and team mass start race on October 20, which marked the final events of the championship.

The championship thrilled audiences with intense and exciting competition. Spectacular bursts of speed, determined chases, and unexpected sprints to the finish all contributed to a vibrant atmosphere for the competition.

An Giang's cycling team continued to secure the first place with six gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Ho Chi Minh City came second with five gold, five silver, and two bronze medals, followed by Binh Duong with two gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.

According to Kieu, the tournament is a practical activity aimed at implementing the Party’s policy on developing sports movement, adding that it not only enhances cultural and spiritual life for local residents but also promotes the culture, image, and people of Hoa Binh to domestic and foreign tourists.
