Dinh Danh Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports
and Tourism, said that following the guidance of the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Tourism, the provincial People’s Committee built a plan to organise
grassroots sports festivals and the sixth provincial sports festival and to
attend the 8th national sports festival in 2018.
The province set a target of 98 percent or above of communes, wards and towns and 100 percent of city and districts holding their sports festivals. At the 8th national sports festival, the province’s team strives to win three gold, two silver, and six bronze medals, ranking 40th out of 65 participating cities, provinces and sectors and in top 10 among 19 mountainous localities.
According to Hanh, the organisation of grassroots sports festivals has to date met set progress and requirements. All districts set up the organising board of the sports festival and held meetings to review and assess the organisation in order to make better festivals.
In addition, the commune-level sports festival comprises at least five sports, including three national ones.
To date, the organisation of four sports, namely badminton, table tennis, swimming, and cross-river swimming race, has been completed with 26 sets of medals granted. Meanwhile, volleyball, 7-player football, tennis and 26thtraditional marathon will take place from now until the end of this year.
The successful organisation of all-level sports festivals is expected to create a new face for the sports movement of the province and encourage local residents to participate in sports events to get fit. Through this competition, the most outstanding athletes of each sport were selected so that they can prepare well in both physical strength and skills to attend the 8thnational sports festival in 2018.
