(HBO) - In November of 2017, Hoa Binh province hosted the successful competitions of national ethnic minority sports in Region I. The contest was attended by athletes from 17 provinces, cities, competing for 51 medals set in 8 subjects: football, volleyball, crossbow shooting, tug of war, stick pushing, shuttlecock throwing, tu lu, marathon.

Hoa Binh successfully won 11 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 5 bronze medals and won the first team prize with 484 points, more than the second by 171 points and more than the third team by 262 points.

Originated from customs and habits attached for many generations with people’s living activities, traditional sports, such as stick pushing, crossbow shooting, tug of war, shuttlecock throwing, Tu Lu, etc. always have strong vitality in the spiritual life of the ethnic minority in the province. Especially, in recent time, with the attention of the Party Ccommittees, authorities, sports and physical trainng movements in ethnic minority areas, there has been a rapid and steady development. The ethnic sports, folk games have been restored and developed, festivals and cultural and sport competitions are held more and more abundantly in terms of performances. On the anniversaries, the national occasions, all the local areas in the province organize competitions and sports festival for local people to participate. In particular, national sports and folk games are indispensable. The activities took place actively, attracting a large number of people to participate in, which contributes to creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere for local people. Thereby, it can contribute to tightening the solidarity, honoring, preserving cultural characteristics of the people of different ethnic groups in the province.

Attending at the provincial stadium, we see the spirit of solidarity and the love of sports always burning in each athlete. The competition is not only impressive by the tactics of the athletes’ performances involved in ethnic sports but also at the increasingly rejuvenated age of the athletes, especially the participation in swaying, cheering enthusiastically of the supporters. At the subject of tug of war, the Hoa Binh team excellent ly won 5/8 gold medals in the content of female content, male content and double co-ordinated content. Luong Van Qua athlete, the gold medal of stick pushing for men's weight between 63-66 kg confided: As a provincial athlete to compete in this competition, I feel very happy and well prepared about health, psychological stability to compete for the highest results. With the gold medal, I am very happy that I have brought about high achievement for the delegation.

The achievements in recent years has partly affirmed that the ethnic sport is the strength of the province. This is both a motivation and a goal for the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to invest in the development of strong ethnic sports and continue to strive for high achievements in regional and national competitions in the next years.
