The 32-member Vietnamese team ranked second in the medal tally at the Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships, which took place at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 4 and 5.

The host Thailand topped the overall medal count with15 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals, while third place was claimed by Malaysia.

The young Vietnamese athletes, taking part in the categories of running, the high jump, long jump, shot-put and javelin, won 13 gold, 14 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Vietnamese athletes also broke six records in the Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships, including Ngo Thi Khanh Ny (women’s 800m), Le Tien Long (men’s 1,500m and 2,000m, and 3,000m steeplechase event), and Doan Thu Hang (women’s 800m and 1,500m).

This year’s event attracted many young athletes, born in 2001, 2002 and 2003, from 10 Southeast Asian countries, who competed at 19 men’s events and 19 women’s events.
