Hanoi FC continued their reign atop the provisional V.League standings after fighting back to play out a 1-1 draw with Saigon FC in their sixth-round clash at Hang Day Stadium on April 22.

With the draw against Saigon, Hanoi FC have extended their unbeaten V.League run to six games.

Manager Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side started their home game against the second last team confidently, aiming to bag the full three points to consolidate their dominance on top of the table.

Hanoi’s attacking spearheads, namely Oseni, Van Quyet, and Quang Hai, poured constant pressure on the Saigon side, putting the guests onto the back foot.

Against the run of play, Saigon successfully converted a fast counterattack, with Huu Son firing a decisive shot from long range into the far corner in the 20thminute, thus gifting manager Phan Van Tai Em’s side a fabulous advantage before half time.

After the unexpected opener, Hanoi FC pushed hard for an equaliser, only to see their attempts blocked by keeper Van Phong, who produced an outstanding display on Sunday.

It was not until the hour market that Chu Dinh Nghiem breathed a sigh of relief, as from Thanh Luong’s assist, Moses broke the offside trap to secure an equaliser and seal a precious point for the home side.

The lucky draw helped Hanoi FC to remain on top of the table after the sixth round with 14 points, only one point clear of Quang Ninh Coal, who forced newbies Nam Dinh to remain rooted to the bottom with a 1-0 win at Cam Pha Stadium on April 21.

In the other matches, two goals by Cong Phuong and Minh Vuong gifted Hoang Anh Gia Lai a 2-0 triumph at home against former champions SHB Da Nang. Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN remain in third place with 11 points following their goalless tie at Quang Nam. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City failed to break into the top three of the standings after suffering a 0-1 home loss to Hai Phong.
