France’s Kevin Mayer set a new decathlon world record on Sunday when he finished with 9126 points at the Decastar event in Talence, France. He threw a personal best of 71.90 metres in the javelin, Sunday’s penultimate event, then finished the decisive 1,500 metres in four minutes 36.11 seconds, having needed to clock 4:49 to break the record.

* Britain's Lewis Hamilton eased to victory from pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday as the Mercedes driver extended his championship lead over Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to 40 points with six rounds remaining.

* Spain's Mario Mola clinched his third straight World Triathlon Series men's title after finishing second in the final race on the Gold Coast in Australia on Sunday. Frenchman Vincent Luis won the race in 1:44:34, 14 seconds ahead of Mola, while South Africa's Richard Murray finished third.

* West Ham United beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park on Sunday to secure their first Premier League points of the season as Marco Silva tasted defeat for the first time as Everton manager.

* Wolverhampton Wanderers inflicted a fourth successive defeat on Burnley with a 1-0 victory at Molineux on Sunday, leaving the visitors second bottom of the Premier League after their worst start to a top-flight season in 89 years.

* France's Pauline Parmentier won her second title of the year when she defeated American qualifier Jessica Pegula at Quebec City on Sunday. Parmentier, the eighth seed, withstood five aces from Pegula and claimed half of the American's second service points to win her fourth career title.

* American Angela Stanford claimed her maiden major title at the Evian Championship on Sunday (Sep 16) by one shot after compatriot and long-time leader Amy Olson made a double-bogey on the final hole.

* Playmaker Dimitri Payet scored a stunning volley and Florian Thauvin struck twice as Marseille secured a 4-0 win in Ligue 1 over visitors Guingamp, who frustrated their more illustrious opponents at times but ultimately came up short.

* Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game as newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their impressive start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 win at home to Burnley on Sunday (Sep 16).
