Nearly 1,500 athletes competed in the 45th Ha Noi Moi (New Hanoi) Newspaper Run in pedestrian space around Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi on September 30.

In the amateur category, students, workers, soldiers and expats, competed in different distances, ranging from 1,750m to 5,250m. Meanwhile, 160 athletes from 20 teams across the country competed in the professional events with distances ranging from 5,250m to 8,750m.

At the event, Ha Noi Moi newspaper presented VND50 million to the Hanoi city’s Fund for the Poor to join the effort in reducing poverty in the city.

Ten collectives who have made positive contributions to the tournament over recent years were also honoured on the occasion.

The event is among activities celebrating 64th anniversary of Hanoi’s liberation and the 19th anniversary of the capital being recognised as "The City for Peace” by UNESCO.

The annual tournament also aims to promote an image of peaceful Hanoi and to promote sports among people.
