(HBO) – Tan Lac district’s swimming team has won high prizes at provincial and regional tournaments for consecutive years, mostly thanks to swimmers from Dich Giao commune.

Dinh Cong Khien, a cultural officical of Dich Giao commune, said swimming attracts many people during the summer, especially children, making it easier to select and train outstanding athletes for local and provincial competitions. The commune’s swimming team now comprises about 30 athletes who have been training under the guidance of veteran, experienced athletes such as Bui Thi Mui, Bui Van Trinh and Dinh Thi Ly.

Young male swimmers of Dich Giao commune, Tan Lac district, competed in the province’s traditional river-crossing swimming tournament - The 22nd Television Cup 2017.

In recent years, young and talented swimmers such as Bui Minh Son, Bui Xuan Hieu, Bui Thi Linh, Bui Thi Luong and Bui Thi Nguyen have competed in the provincial, regional and national tournaments.

In the provincial junior and senior swimming championships in May 2016, Tan Lac district’s team won 9 gold medals in many events, five of them were grabbed by Dich Giao commune’s athletes. Besides, in the national swimming championships in Hoa Binh in August 2016, swimmer Bui Thi Mui grabbed one gold and one silver medal, while Dinh Thi Ly brought home two silvers. Tan Lac district’s team also came first in the province’s traditional river-crossing swimming tournament - The 22nd Television Cup 2017, mostly thanks to athletes from Dich Giao commune.

In order to achieve high performances in each tournament, the commune authorities often gather athletes for training for 10-15 days before each competition. The athletes undergo technical and physical training under the guidance of veteran athletes. Veteran swimmer Bui Thi Mui from Dich Giao commune said she frequently shares her experience accumulated from years of competition with young athletes to help them secure high achievements.

To provide drowning prevention skills and seek young promising swimmers for tournaments, the commune often organises 2-3 swimming classes during the summer, attracting around 100 children. The commune’s administration also creates favourable conditions for young athletes to compete in local competitions in a bid to improve their professionalism./.
