With a time of 56.10 seconds, this was the best performance by Lan so far this year.

Lan was followed by Jamal Aminat Yusuf from Bahrain and Saritaben Gayakwad from India, who finished second and third with times of 56.39s and 57.22s, respectively.

However, the Vietnamese runner was 0.10 seconds slower than the qualifying mark for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Born in 1995 in Thanh Hoa province, Lan is one of the most prominent names among the Vietnamese track and field athletes. She won two silver medals in last year’s Asian Games and a gold medal in the 2017 Asian Athletics Grand Prix in China.

Taking place in Doha from April 21 to 25, the on-going Asian Athletics Championships 2019 gathers athletes from 63 countries and territories worldwide. Athletes’ performances in this tournament go towards qualification for the 2019 World Championship and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Vietnam sent 12 runners to the event, including Le Tu Chinh, Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Van Lai, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Thi Hue, among others.
