(HBO) - On the occasion of the 65th practical anniversary of Dien Bien Phu's historic victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2019), the People's Army Newspaper, General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Vietnam Bicycle and Motorbike Federation and Mai Linh Group have cooperated with many other appropriate authorities and localities to organize the race "Returning to Dien Bien Phu - 2019, the Cup of the People's Army Newspaper".

This is the 4th time the newspaper has organized this race, a traditional sporting event with a reputation for expertise and it has a deep political and social significance. Through this activity, it helps to propagate, educate and encourage the atmosphere of the whole Party, the entire people and the whole army towards the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu historic victory. Through the race, it can also help promote the development and support the movement and competition of cycling throughout the country.

In the framework of this race, there are also other practical and meaningful activities such as the incense at Ly Thai To monument, a visit to the martyr's cemetery in Dien Bien province, the monument of Dien Bien Phu historic victory; and the photo display of bicycle races held by the People's Army Newspaper over the years. On this occasion, the Organizing Committee will donate gratitude houses and valuable gifts to the war veterans who are the former soldiers at Dien Bien Phu, the relatives of the martyrs, the families under the preferential policies and the poor students who overcome difficulties in Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien and some other localities.

There are about 300 participants in the race, including 60 male athletes from the 12 most powerful domestic racing teams today. The race takes place from 1 – 6 May 2019 with 6 race stages. Stage one is around Hoan Kiem Lake (Hanoi). The second stage, which will officially open in the morning of May 2, starts at the Flag Tower (Hanoi) and the destination is Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh) with the route of 130 km. Thus, in this stage, the race takes a long journey through the localities of Hoa Binh such as Ky Son, Hoa Binh, Cao Phong, Tan Lac and Mai Chau.

To contribute to the success of the race, the People's Committee of the province has decided to establish a local Organizing Committee with the participation of many departments, the appropriate authorities and localities. The local organizers have already held the meetings and implemented the tasks.

Ms. Bui Thi Niem, the Director of the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, says that the good performance of the race is also a practical activity towards the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu historic victory. Through this meaningful sporting event, it is also an opportunity for us to introduce and promote the images of land and people, the cultural identity and the strong potentials of tourism in Hoa Binh are coming to the racing teams and the tourists.
