Vietnam’s athletics team have increased their gold medal collection at the ongoing ninth ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia to 17 after claiming four additional titles on September 22.


Athletics has earned Vietnam 17 gold medals so far at the 2017 ASEAN Para Games.

Vo Van Tung demonstrated his power in the throwing events by winning both the discus and javelin F34 competitions.

Truong Bich Van took the top honour in the women’s shot put F55 category, thus completing a double of gold medals in Kuala Lumpur, following her previous victory in the discus throw discipline.

Le Van Manh brought home the last gold medal of the day for Vietnam with his supreme finish in the men’s 200m T37 sprint race.

Vietnamese athletes also secured another six silvers – three in athletics and three in swimming – and seven bronzes – four in athletics and three in swimming.

As of 5.30pm on September 22, Vietnam stood firmly in fourth place in the standings, with 37 gold, 55 silver and 54 bronze medals, behind Indonesia (101 golds), Malaysia (84) and Thailand (60).
