Ly Hoang Nam advanced to the quarter-finals of the Thailand F8 Men’s Futures tennis tournament in Nonthaburi province on October 11.

Vietnam’s top tennis ace defeated Japanese Masato Shiga 6-3, 7- 5 in the singles second round.

He will next face second seed Australian Max Purcell. Purcell advanced to the last-eight round after his opponent Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul of the hosts withdrew when down 7-6 (3) to Purcell.

In the doubles, Nam and Japanese Ito Yuichi came from behind to beat No 3 seeds Chung Yunseong and Purcell 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10- 8 inthe quarter-finals.

They will meet top seeds Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Karunuday Singh of India in the last four. The Indians on October 11 won 6-1, 6-3 over wildcards Congsup Congcar and Kittiphong Wachiramanovong of Thailand 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.-VNA
