(HBO) In recent years, Yen Hoa commune (Da Bac) has been well known as a locality with the strength of the national sports movement with the following subjects: stick pushing, tug of war, and crossbow shooting... The Party committee and the communal authorities have been paying great attention to training, improving the quality of the resource of the adjacent athlete, creating a useful playground and attracting people to participate in practice. Since 2016, the typical athletes of the commune have always won high rankings at the ethnic sports tournaments of the district, the province and the region.

Stick pushing is a strong sport of Yen Hoa commune (Da Bac) that always wins high rankings in the tournaments organized by the district and the province.

The "golden” girl, Luong Thi Kieu, from Kia village is one of the excellent athletes in the sport of stick pushing at the weight class of over 75 kg. Kieu’s highest achievement is 2 gold medals at the XI National Ethnic Sports Competition in region I and the Northwestern Ethnic Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival, which were all held in 2019. In addition, Luong Thi Kieu has always been standing at the highest podium at the tournaments in the district and province since 2016. Ms. Kieu says: "Stick pushing requires the constant strength and health as well as the technique. Therefore, in order to get the high achievements in the tournaments, the group of athletes participating in practice needs to actively train their fitness and regularly compete in groups, or with the local athletes nearby to exchange skills, to rub and improve their skills”.

Not only stick pushing, the other ethnic sports such as tug of war, crossbow shooting also get the outstanding achievements at the tournaments held by the district and the province. Over the past years, the movement for training the national ethnic sports has always been paid attention to by the Party committee and the appropriate authorities and the local people. Currently, the ethnic sports teams with about 140 athletes are maintained in 4 helmets. The teams and groups take advantage of vacant land and school grounds to practice together, improving their health and exchanging the experiences and techniques.

To promote the widespread development of the movement of the national ethnic sports, every year the commune organizes the tournaments on the occasion of the festivals and early spring of the new year, creating a useful playground to attract people to participate. They have been encouraging the people to practice the national ethnic sports in order to increase solidarity, contributing to preserving and conserving the traditional cultural beauty. Each year they maintain to provide from 4 - 5 excellent athletes to join the ethnic sports teams of the district and province. The typical athletes are Ha Van Xuan, Ha Van Thoi, Luong Thi Kieu ...

However, the problem raised in the maintenance and development of the ethnic sports is as follows: the source of athletes is limited due to the fact that the force of young people have gone working away from home, there is a lack of funding to buy equipment, the facilities for training and competition has not received attention for investment; and a part of people choose other sports such as soccer, volleyball, badminton ...

Mr. Luong Van Xung, the Chairman of the Communal People's Committee says: "Due to the complicated development of Covid-19 epidemic, since the beginning of 2021, the commune has not organized sports competitions to ensure the requirements of controlling and preventing the disease. In the coming time, the Party committees and communal authorities will step up propaganda so that the local people will actively take part in physical training and sports, in which, they will focus on the national ethnic sports. They will pay attention to select the adjacent athletes. They will also mobilize the socialized resources to invest and buy equipment for training and competition. Thereby, it helps to affirm that it has one of the leading units in the movement of the district's ethnic sports.
