The cyclists have been maintaining training, being ready to compete.
Having made many important contributions to the provincial high-achivement sports, the School for the Gifted, Training and Competition is the "cradle” of training the athletes for the high-achivement sports in the province. Currently, the school trains 14 athletes (including 1 person who is both an athlete and a coach) and there are 99 students being trained and fostered at 7 gifted classes. They include Cycling, Athletics, Weightlifting, Boxing, Pencak Silat, Karate and Taekwondo. The school's students are between the ages of 11 and 20. Training the talented athletes and students has to go through a long, scientific and rigorous training process right from the time they were discovered and selected to the stage of training and competing. Every day, the gifted students have to study the school subjects in parallel with the professional sports training. Currently, there are more than 40 high school students studying at the Provincial Continuing Education Center. From the school year of 2020-2021 and earlier, the high school students are scheduled to study the school subjects in the evening and the professional practice time is 2 sessions a day.
From the school year of 2021 - 2022, the time for students to study the school subjects at the Provincial Continuing Education Center has changed. They study the school subjects in the morning, and the time for sports practice has been halved, so the students' timetable has also had to be adjusted to match the reality.
Mr. Nguyen Nghia Hung, the Vice Principal of the School for the Gifted, Training and Sports says: "The main task is to practice and compete in sports. However, the students' learning is also important. The schedule of the high school students has greatly affected the daily practice. To ensure the effectiveness, the training and coaching the students and athletes must be 2 sessions a day. Currently, it is very difficult to make a reasonable arrangement between the school studies and the sports practice of the high school students. Facing with this reality, we have to adapt to the difficulties and we are step by step looking for the solutions to overcome them.”
Additionally, now the development of high-achivement sports is also facing difficulties in terms of facilities, equipment, and training tools. For many years, cycling has been a strong sport of our province as it has continuously won many impressive achievements at regional and national tournaments. There have been athletes and coaches participating in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, and many athletes have been summoned to the youth team, the national team... Currently, there are 8 athletes from the provincial team and 16 students from the gifted class in the cycling force. Despite getting many proud achievements, few people know that the team of cyclists have to practice in the situation of lacking the equipment. There are 8 athletes with only 5 bikes for practice and there 16 students in the cycling class with only 6 training bikes. Similar to cycling, weightlifting must also maintain training in the condition of lacking equipment and tools. In 2021, weightlifting brought 1 silver and 7 bronze medals to Hoa Binh sports at the National Youth Weightlifting Championships. To overcome the difficulties for each training session to be effective, the athletes and the students have to be divided into groups and shift to practice. Specifically, when this group does exercise or weightlifting, the other group practice the strength training.
The Vice Principal of the School for the Gifted, Training and Sports Competition expresses: "The fact that there is no intensive gym and physical therapy area for recovery is also the difficulty that the school has to face. When the rainy time prolonges or there is intense heat, training must be interrupted. The intensive gym with machines develop each muscle group to help the athletes and the students strengthen their physical strength, and the physiotherapy is also essential in case of injuries”.
Although there are still difficulties in training and education, with the determination and efforts of the province's sports staff and the force of the athletes and the students, it is believed and hoped in a new year of 2022, the high-achivement sports will get more success at upcoming major sports events such as 31st SEA Games, the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022...
