(HBO) - Currently, there are 6 districts with 15 villages and 157 households doing community tourism in the province. The villages of community tourism have been formed closely linked with the cultural identity of a certain ethnic group such as the tourist village of Thai and Mong ethnic people in Mai Chau district, the tourist villages of Muong ethnic people in Da Bac, Cao Phong, Tan Lac and Lac Son districts, a tourism village of Dao ethnic people in Da Bac district and so on.

Every year, Chieng Chau commune (Mai Chau) organizes Xen Muong Festival to promote the culture and the tourism potential of the district.

The households doing community tourism have also recreated the cultural space of the ethnic groups through collecting and displaying the traditional production tools of the local people for tourists to study.

Mrs. Bui Thi Niem, the Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism says that implementing the policy of associating tourism development with the cultural identity of the ethnic groups, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has focused on propagating to maintain the actual state, the landscape, the architecture and the traditional costumes, creating a cultural space imbued with identity. The localities pay attention to preserving the traditional occupations such as Thai weaving, Do paper making of Mong people ... Thereby, people guide tourists to experience participating in making traditional products such as weaving, making handbags ... On average, each community tourism village maintains from one to two public performance arts teams to serve tourists. The performance activities are folk songs and folk dances. The traditional folk games have been preserved. Those activities have contributed to introduce and promote the unique traditional culture of the ethnic people to visitors.

The cultural identity of ethnic people is also expressed through festivals and the historical and cultural relics. Since the beginning of the year, 63 festivals including 6 ones at the district’s level, 35 ones at the communal level, 22 ones at the village and hamlet’s level, have been held in the province. Ninety-four historical and cultural relics are ranked, in which there are 53 historical and cultural relics ranked as the provincial level, 41 historical and cultural relics ranked as the national one. Some of the traditional festivals of ethnic people have a great attraction to tourists such as: Muong Bi Exploitation Festival (Tan Lac), a new rice celebration festival of Muong people, Xen Ban festival, Xen Muong of Thai ethnic people , the traditional New Year of the Mong people (Mai Chau), Tet Nhay, Cap Sac ceremony of Dao ethnic people (Da Bac) ...

Thanks to the good exploitation of the cultural values to develop community tourism, the number of tourists in the localities is constantly increasing.

In the coming time, the Culture sector will continue promoting the collection, the restoration and the conservation, preserving the tangible and intangible culture, the special customs and traditions of the ethnic minorities such as the spoken language, writing, the costumes and the architecture to create tourism attraction.
