(HBO) - The scenery in Cao Phong – Muong Thang is beautiful, preserving many unique values in culture. Cao Phong has become the ideal destination for tourists for a long time. Giang Mo village, Binh Thanh commune is the first major tourism community in the district.

In 2018-2019, the district developed new tourism communities in Thung Tien hamlet, Thung Nai commune with 5 registered households for tourism, in Mung village, Hop Phong commune with 17 registered households, in Rom Khanh village, Thach Yen commune with 17 registered households. In particular, Thach Yen has been selected as a key site to implement the project for the integrated ecotourism named Happy Land Cao Phong. There have been a lot of tourist group coming to experience at the tourism communities, but they have not stayed there yet.

In December 2019, 5 households registered for the business of tourism community in Tien village, Thung Nai commune officially welcomed guests. The village is located on the area of Hoa Binh lake. It is about 4 km from Thung Nai port, which is convenient for tourists to travel to the port by car, and then they travel by boat to visit the tourism spots on the lake such as Thac Bo temple and cave, Dua island, Co Xay Gio island. There are 148 households, nearly 100% of the population is Muong in the whole village. The people in Tien village are always aware of preserving the national identity. Currently, more than 70% of households have kept their houses on stilts, and Muong folk songs are matured by the arts performance teams.

At present, Rom Khanh village, Thach Yen commune has 7 households, which are eligible for registering homestay business. Seven households have joined the tourism cooperative (established in June 2019) and signed a commitment to repair their houses with amenities to welcome tourists, including the surrounding gardens. The households registered for tourism community business in Hop Phong and 10 households in Thach Yen are actively completing the procedures, including building accommodation facilities, equipping with knowledge and preparing human resources. All the households registered for tourism community in Hop Phong and Thach Yen are trying to be eligible to welcome visitors by 2023.

Tourism is gradually asserting an important position in the economic development of Cao Phong district, including tourism community. In 2014, the district welcomed 28,988 turns of visitors, including 2,943 turns of international visitors. By 2019, the district welcomed 435,026 turns of visitors, including 550 turns of international visitors and 434,476 turns of domestic visitors. The revenue from tourism reached 39,300 million VND.

In the coming time, in order to develop tourism community, the Party committees, the authorities and the people of the district continue to implement effectively the Resolution No.04, dated on November 22, 2017 of the District’s Party Committee on tourism development in Cao Phong district in the period of 2017-2020 and the orientation up to 2030. 

The project on tourism development in Cao Phong district in the period of 2016 – 2020 with a vision to 2030. It is necessary to promote communication, raise awareness and responsibility of the Party committees, the authorities, the sectors and the people of all ethnicity in the district about the importance of tourism development. In the first 9 months of 2024, Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province welcomed over 684 thousand visitors to visit and relax. In which, over 516 thousand domestic visitors and more than 168 thousand international visitors. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at over 821 billion VND.
