Other CPP officials, Nay Pena and Tep Ngorn were also elected as first and second Vice Presidents of the Senate, respectively.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh was among guests at the opening session.
Later the same day, all senators were sworn in at a ceremony held in the royal palace.
Members of the Cambodian Senate were elected on February 25 and announced by the National Election Committee on March 3. In the election, the CPP won 58 out of total 62 seats. Two seats were appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni and the rest two were selected by the National Assembly.
A term of the Senate lasts for six years. The body is in charge of giving decision on National Assembly’s legal documents before submitting them to the King for approval.
