At the talks, Li pledged to bring China’s friendship with Cambodia to a higher level, and strengthen communication and coordination under the framework of China-ASEAN cooperation and Lancang-Mekong cooperation.

Chinese companies will be assisted to participate in Cambodia's infrastructure construction in such areas as production capacity, transportation and electricity, the premier said.

For his part, PM Hun Sen said Cambodia will work with China to consolidate their friendship, deepen cooperation in infrastructure, production capacity, economy and trade, agriculture, expand people-to-people exchanges and strengthen cooperation in international and regional affairs.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a series of cooperative documents. The two sides will also issue a joint statement on January 23.

Earlier the same day, China’s top legislator Li Zhanshu and top political advisor Wang Yang met with PM Hun Sen.

The China-Cambodia Trade and Investment Promotion Forum 2019 was held in Beijing on January 22 as part of PM Hun Sen’s four-day visit to China, aimed at exploring ways to boost economic, trade and investment ties between the two countries.

PM Hun Sen revealed that China has agreed to provide his nation with 4 billion Chinese yuan (around 588 million USD) in grant aid as part of a three-year assistance fund.

In the talks with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping on January 21, the two countries agreed to increase their bilateral trade to 10 billion USD by 2023, Hun Sen said, adding that the Chinese leader also promised to purchase 400,000 tonnes of rice from Cambodia in 2019 and push more Chinese businesses to invest in the country.
