The Women’s Union of Hoa Binh province has carried out various measures to promote gender equality over the recent past, seeing it as the key to eliminating violence against women and girls.

The Women’s Union of Yen Thuy district organises a communications campaign to eliminate gender stereotypes and advocate against child marriage and families having a third or more children.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the Hoa Binh Women’s Union Kha Thi Luan, the local union has issued plans and guidance on building several communications models to raise public awareness of gender and gender equality, and domestic violence prevention, among others. The move came as the Vietnam Women’s Union is leading a project on promoting gender equality and handling urgent issues for women and children under the national target programme on socio-economic development in mountainous and ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

Due attention has been paid to the organisation of training courses on the issues, she said, adding the communication work has been implemented with creative approaches, including social media campaigns, radio and TV programmes in Vietnamese, Thai and Muong ethnic languages, and leaflet distribution.

Besides, the women’s unions at all levels have engaged in various events to promote gender equality and settle urgent issues related to women and girls, with noteworthy ones comprising the "Hoa Binh women joining hands to build new-style rural areas” campaign, "peaceful village for women and girls” model, and those promoting family values, anti-child marriage and anti-domestic violence.
