Staff of the Red Cross Society of Hoa Binh province were deeply moved by a meaningful and humanitarian act by Mr Vu Huu Lung, 86, in Hoa Binh city, to donate his corneas, which brought hopes to those yearning for the light. Before passing away, Lung left behind a noble wish to donate all of his organs, including his corneas, to help patients suffering from blindness and those in need of organ transplants to revive their lives.
As soon as receiving the information, medical workers from the eye bank of Hanoi Eye Hospital 2 quickly arrived in Hoa Binh to fulfill Lung's wish. Despite the long and urgent journey, everyone could feel the solemnity and emotion because this was not just an act of donation, but a sacred gesture, marking a new step in the community's humanitarian journey. Despite a swift process to take donated organs, every moment was filled with deep respect for the deceased.
The doctors perform surgery to take the corneas from the donor.
Amidst the family’s sadness, Lung’s relatives still showed their pride, knowing that he left with a meaningful act. His action will live forever not only in the memories, but also in the lives of those who receive his help.
Not only his family but also his neighbours were moved by, and expressed their admiration for his action. The precious thing is that many people have boldly registered to donate their organs, because they see the value of the humane act.
This is the first organ donation in the province, demonstrating a shining example of compassion and sharing, conveying a deeply humane message about love between people.
