With a desire to preserve and spread traditional cultural values, many young people are leveraging TikTok to showcase the tourism, culture, historical sites, entertainment, and cuisine of their hometown, Hoa Binh, to a wider audience.

A TikToker shares experiences with union members and young people at a training conference on registering stores and promoting products on e-commerce platforms, organised by Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter of Hoa Binh province.

26-year-old TikToker Dinh Thi Hoan, who resides in Da Bac town of the district of the same name, has gained recognition through her TikTok channel "Un o Hoa Binh," where she shares short videos introducing local tourist attractions, historical sites, ethnic minority cultures, entertainment spots, and food reviews. Her content has attracted millions of views. After nearly a year, her channel has gained over 37,000 followers and more than 600,000 likes.

Speaking about her motivation to create content on TikTok, Hoan said that as a Muong ethnic group in Hoa Binh, she has loved exploring and expressing her affection for her homeland since childhood.

However, she noticed that many young people today neither speak nor understand the Muong language, and few are familiar with the traditional culture of the region. That's why she decided to create videos to spread my love for the Muong language and promote the beauty of her hometown. The word 'Un' in her channel’s name means 'younger sibling' in Muong language."

Each video on the channel tells a story about the culture, tourism, cuisine, and people of Hoa Binh. Some notable videos include The Mascot of Hoa Binh 2025, Muong Bi New Year Festival, Exploring Muong gongs in Hoa Binh and My Hometown Hoa Binh. The channel also features famous local dishes and agricultural products, such as sticky rice, fermented pork and grass carp floss through reviews and personal experiences. Additionally, Hoan provides guides on accommodations, relaxation spots, and entertainment venues in the region for tourists.

TikTok has rapidly grown into one of Vietnam's leading short-video platforms, attracting not only young users but also middle-aged audiences. The platform’s short-form content, combined with dynamic sound effects and constantly changing visuals, sets it apart from Facebook and YouTube. This makes TikTok an ideal tool for promoting local culture and tourism through engaging and creative videos.

Videos that showcase local culture receive widespread support from the online community. Many viewers express excitement and appreciation for the unique cultural aspects featured in these videos. Moreover, this digital storytelling fosters a sense of pride among young people, encouraging them to explore and preserve their traditional values.

Hoan is not alone in this endeavour. She is joined by Hoa Binh Agency, which manages other TikTok channels such as "Tho dia Hoa Binh" with 37,000 followers and over 700,000 likes, and "Hoa Binh Local" with 5,000 followers and over 60,000 likes. These channels, run by passionate young people, share a common love for Hoa Binh and are pioneering efforts to bring traditional culture closer to the younger generation.

Nguyen Thanh Luan, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter of Hoa Binh, said TikTok has proven to be an effective tool for young people to promote their hometown’s culture. Beyond cultural preservation, these videos also contribute to local tourism development. Once attractions and traditional dishes are presented in an appealing way on social media, they will attract more visitors, boosting the local economy. Thanks to the creativity and passion of young content creators, a genuine and relatable image of Hoa Binh’s landscapes and people is reaching a broader audience. This is especially significant in today’s digital era, where online tourism promotion has become an essential trend, he added.
