(HBO) – Launched in 2016, the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and promote urban civilization" has been actively implemented by Thuong Coc commune in Lac Son district in association with the movement "joining hands to build new rural areas".

Trang hamlet, Thuong Coc commune in Lac Son district maintains regular practice of a Gong club. The club usually performs in the locality’s festivals.

Through communication activities with concrete and practical content, the commune’s Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and its chapters in hamlets have helped raise public awareness of their own responsibility in building a civilised lifestyle. Luong hamlet has been selected to pilot measures toward this goal.

Accordingly, each family in the locality contributed 100,000 VND/month to build two hygienic toilets for two households.  After these works are completed, contributions will be raised for the construction of wall fences and the installation of electricity lines for lighting.

At the start, many households did not realise the benefits of the model so they did not agree to contribute money. Meetings were arranged to explain the model and its benefits to locals, helping them understand about it. At the same time, participating households elected a person that they trust to keep records on the collection and spending of the money. Therefore, from the initial 78 households, now 100 percent of the households in the hamlet have completed the construction of hygienic toilets; 75 out of 115 households built wall fences and installed 1.3 km of electricity lines for lighting.

From the model in Luong hamlet, the Thuong Coc commune’s VFF has expanded the model to 22 other residential areas in the commune, with more than 80.5 percent of households have completed the construction programme of hygienic latrines; 6 residential areas have successfully involved 100 percent of local households in the model; 10 residential areas have completed the installation of lighting lines.

Along with developing infrastructure facilities, the VFF working committees of residential areas in the commune have also called for locals to strictly implement the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws and ensure security and order.

In the form of self-management in ensuring security and order, households in the communes signed commitments to fight social evils and crimes, especially educate youths, towards preventing drug addiction and social evil in the community. As a result, more than 75 percent of households in the commune have been recognised as cultural families and 70 percent of residential areas have met criteria of cultural residential areas. Many residential areas have not seen any social evils and met criteria of rural environment./.
