(HBO) – More than 100 businesses in Luong Son district, northern Hoa Binh province were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the first months of the year. Over 1,840 workers became unemployed. Therefore, the development of social insurance membership encounters a number of difficulties.

The social insurance agency of Luong Son district simplifies administrative procedures to make it easier for locals to join social and health insurance.

Most of enterprises in the locality are operating at small scale with only a few of employees. Many newly-established businesses have yet been active.

In January-June, 608 businesses joined insurance with over 89,000 people taking part in social and health insurance, up 4.3 percent year-on-year. Nearly 20 new firms paid social, health and unemployment insurance premiums for their 304 workers. More than 13,000 people joined compulsory social insurance, fulfilling 92.5 percent of the yearly target. Over 390 others registered for voluntary social insurance, meeting 36.3 percent of the annual plan. Over 89,000 and 12,000 people joined health and unemployment insurance, hitting 98.06 and 91.5 percent, respectively.

Recognising difficulties caused by the pandemic, right from the beginning of the year, the district social insurance sector soon built working plans and solutions to expand insurance membership. It has coordinated with the district’s Department of Information and Education, Labour Federation, Farmers’ Association, Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Women’s Association to disseminate the Law on Social Insurance and Law on Health Insurance in 187 hamlets across the district.

The sector has also strengthened coordination with trade unions, especially those at industrial parks and foreign-invested businesses to promote the dissemination of social and health insurance policies to employers and employees./.
