(HBO) - Located in the most remote area of Lac Sy commune (Yen Thuy), there are 111 households in Thong Nhat hamlet. The local mainly live on agriculture and their main income sources are from forest planting and rice transplantation. It makes it difficult for the socio-economic development of the village because it is far from the center of the commune and the district.

In the whole village, there are up to 70 poor households, accounting for over 60% of the households. In addition, the people there also have difficulty in using hygienic water. Most of the households are using the water source from the taps on the hill leading home. However, due to the topography, the water cannot lead to 41 households. In the dry season, the households have to carry water from the foot of the hill to their home, some households carry water for nearly 1km, such as Mr. Bui Van Luyen’s household.

The clean water works of Thong Nhat hamlet, Lac Sy commune (Yen Thuy) has helped many households to have clean water at home.

In early 2020, the regional program of the World Vision Organization has implemented the programs and the projects to support children and communities in difficult upland communes. The community is facilitated to participate in the planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the project with the government and stakeholders. At the same time, they have been focusing on improving accessibility to the quality education, improving health and nutrition, improving the clean water source and the environmental sanitation, protecting the children's rights, building capacity, and minimizing risks and disasters to the community.

The program has offered many options to support the local people. After the meeting of the helmet and seeing the importance and necessity, the World Vision Organization has supported the construction of the running water works for the hamlet. The works consists of 2 water tanks, one storage tank, filtered and pressurized from the source, another storage tank in the center of the hamlet and a water system for over 2 km from the source to the village. The total investment of the project is over 100 million VND, in which the World Vision Organization has supported 67 million VND. The remainder is contributed by households in the village in the form of labor. After more than 1 month of construction, the works has been completed and put into use.

Different from many projects, the World Vision Organization has supported the people to improve their material lives in the form of their choice. The project has selected the most appropriate and practical support for the people here. Additionally, the project has also enhanced the capacity management and construction of the participants in the project from the village, the hamlet to the commune level. The people really own and take responsibility for their works.
